Program Highlights
Theme: Marine Technology
Some of the potential problems that could be explored
- Developing tools for coastal water quality monitoring
- Solutions to reduce small fishing boats biofouling
- Creating solutions for sustainable aquaculture
- Designing systems to mitigate marine debris
Participants will work in interdisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions for problems experienced in the world’s waters and the communities dependent on them. From understanding the user needs to prototyping and pitching, you’ll tackle real-world challenges with cutting-edge tools and methodologies.
HKUST Campus (July 2-8): Dive into design thinking, rapid prototyping, and commercialization strategies. Collaborate in state-of-the-art labs and maker spaces.
Dongguan (July 8-12): Immerse yourself in the Greater Bay Area’s manufacturing ecosystem through factory visits and expert panels. Refine your prototypes and prepare for the final pitch competition.
Demo Day (July 12): The program culminates in an exciting pitch competition where teams present their projects to a panel of judges. Showcase your innovation, demonstrate your entrepreneurial spirit, and compete for recognition!
Eligibility
We welcome Junior year (penultimate year of study) undergraduates or postgraduates from any region, especially those studying mechanics, electronics, medicine, computer science, design, finance, biology, or intelligent hardware. Priority for applicants with lab experience or entrepreneurial backgrounds. Exceptions to the year of study and background will be made on a case-by-case basis.

How to Apply?
Nomination: Each university can nominate up to 10 students and the programme will further interview the students and select them based on their merit and suitability to join the programme. For nomination, please send an email to innobay@ust.hk.
